Donation From Rockingham Ambulance Puts Daniel Webster
College’s EMS Club In The Driver’s Seat
Donated ambulance to be used for training purposes
Nashua, NH, September 3, 2008 — Daniel Webster
College today announced that Rockingham Ambulance, New Hampshire’s
largest 9-1-1 provider, has donated an ambulance to its Emergency
Medical Services (EMS) club. The ambulance will not be used to respond
to emergencies; rather it will provide students with a practical,
“real-world” training environment.
“We’re extremely grateful to Rockingham Ambulance for their generous
donation and for recognizing the importance of programs like our EMS
club,“ said Jamie Provencher, director of campus safety, Daniel Webster
College. “Our volunteers are students who put academics first, but are
dedicated to the club and are often on call. They play a major role in
campus safety and it’s satisfying to see them receive a donation that
will provide access to the hands-on training they need.”
The ambulance will be marked “Daniel Webster College EMS Training
Unit” and will not be used to transport individuals. It will
remain registered for fueling purposes; otherwise, its use will be
restricted to campus.
“We replace three or four vehicles in our fleet annually and look to
donate the retiring vehicles to community organizations that can get
some use out of them,” said Chris Stawasz, executive director,
Rockingham Ambulance.
“Daniel Webster’s EMS club is the perfect fit. We know the
ambulance will be put to good use for training the students who serve
their campus now and may eventually serve the entire community.”
As part of its mission to give back to the community, Rockingham
Ambulance looks for organizations that have an opportunity to use its
aging vehicles. Over the past five years, Rockingham Ambulance has
donated about a dozen vehicles to organizations around the world.
Established prior to the Fall 2006 semester, Daniel Webster College’s
EMS club currently consists of eight volunteers – all students, three of
who respond to events that occur on the college’s campus. Its
members, who are certified EMTs, can only provide medical assistance to
people affiliated with the college (students, faculty, staff, visiting
parents, etc.).
Daniel Webster College offers an EMT certification class, which is a
prerequisite to join the EMS club, through its Graduate and Continuing
Studies program.
Rockingham Regional Ambulance, Inc. is the largest emergency medical
services provider in the State of New Hampshire. The highly trained men
and women of Rockingham Ambulance provide EMS to nearly 200,000 people
throughout New Hampshire on a daily basis, answering over 17,000
emergency 9-1-1 requests annually.
